The first time I attended an LDS Church meeting was a fast and testimony meeting. As I was listening to the various testimonies, I heard a voice out of heaven that said “the testimonies you are hearing are true.” It was accompanied by a huge outpouring of the spirit that lifted me out of my chair. I said “I’ve never been in your Church before and I don’t know what you believe. But if there is a true Church on the face of the earth, this must be it, for never have I felt the Spirit in any Church as I have in this one.” Afterwards, when I went home and told my Mom about it, she had a logical explanation for what happened to me based on her experience working with deaf kids at the John Tracy Clinic for the Deaf. I went out to shoot baskets and think about it and came to the conclusion that my Mom was wrong, that I had heard a voice out of Heaven and felt the spirit and so continued to start the lessons and be baptized. That testimony has stayed with me for 60 years now.
