I remember the first time that someone told me I don’t HAVE to feel overwhelmed.

What?! Have you seen my to-do list? And my deadlines? And my house? And my kids?!

But I’ve definitely learned that my lengthy to-do list will always be there – and it’s just a whole lot easier to tackle if I don’t give into “feeling overwhelmed” about it.

And I think the Lord is really good at helping me out with this.

When I call out to Him in those moments of desperation, when I am feeling overwhelmed and frustrated and like I just can’t do anything…

… He usually doesn’t shorten my to-do list.

He doesn’t make my baby stop crying and go to sleep.

He doesn’t clean up the spilled mac and cheese.

He doesn’t drop something off at a friend’s house.

But He helps to take away those negative emotions so that I can more clearly see my priorities, just get things done, or choose to not do certain things.

He strengthens me by helping me get rid of overwhelm.

I become a stronger mother as I learn how to just feel love for my little guy when he fights the sleep he desperately needs.

I become a stronger person as I power through my fatigue and learn that handling messes now is easier than letting them pile up for later.

I become a better servant and disciple when I remember that service is never convenient.

And as much as I plead for my burdens, however big or small, to be taken away, the Lord knows a lot better than I do.

He knows that He can make me a stronger, more devoted Christlike disciple when He uses my trials to help me grow.

He calms my overwhelm, and gives me strength.

  1. Wow!!! Just what I needed as this time approaches. I’m giving the lesson tomorrow on Mosiah 18-24. I have mental problems from a brain aneurysm I had in 1995. Right now, I few anxious and overwhelmed. I can’t put this lesson together. But reading this last snippet is what I need. Mosiah 24:14. “I will also ease the burdens which are put upon your shoulders, that even you cannot feel them upon your backs”.

    1. I’m so glad this helped get your mind started! You’ll do great 🙂 let me know how it goes!

      1. You’re such an inspiration to me and many others that l share your thoughts with. Anytime I read your snippet l feel so refreshed and energized to move on. May Heavenly Father bless the work of your hands, amen

  2. Thank you… I know He’s helped me when I’ve been overwhelmed…. but I appreciate that scripture more now…Mosiah 24:14. You are an amazing young woman.
