How often do you pray vocally?
For personal prayers?
I went years without doing this.
Honestly, I didn’t think it was that big of a deal.
Until I started hearing people mention it a lot more.
Encouragements to pray vocally.
So… I tried it.
And it felt really awkward at first.
I had to slow my thoughts down more to say the words out loud instead of just jumping through them in my mind.
I had to have intention.
I had to say things out loud that I didn’t usually say out loud, like admitting to my weaknesses and sins for the day, sincerely praying for others, and asking questions.
But by the end of that first prayer, I could already tell this was going to be transformative.
And now anytime that I’m all alone in my room…
I pray out loud.
The Lord said:
“I command thee that thou shalt pray vocally as well as in thy heart”. – (D&C 19:28)
“Our prayers ought to be vocal when we have the privacy to so offer them.” – Jeffrey R. Holland
What has your experience been with praying vocally?

I find it so difficult to orsy out loud, and i have no idea why? I can prsy vocally if there are is more than nyself there, but when im alone, i just cant get the words out. Same when i was at uni, if i had to write about something, the words flowed beautifully in my head, but i just couldnt get them down on paper, it just didnt sound the same as what was in ny head. I get so frustrated with myself
As President Nelson said, “The Lord loves effort!”
Do you ever talk to yourself and then think it’s so you can “hear” yourself? For some reason often thoughts expressed out loud are “heard” with more clarity than just thinking them. Would we, or even should we, verbalize everything that pops into our heard? Probably not, in my case. But maybe that’s what He wants, fo us to listen. Maybe in those times when we pray vocally we are more mindful, more contrite, more sincere, more emotional, more reverent, more intentional with our words as we hear our conversation with Him.
I love these thoughts. Thanks for sharing!
I pray vocally anytime I’m alone or with immediate friends and family. I am a convert member of 33 yrs. i know there’s a connection of prayer and praise that is magnified by your relationship with the Lord in righteousness. I not only pray out loud , I go into song and my pyayer tongue of holiness. I have this gift and interpretation of my most Holy prayer. My testimony of vocal prayer is, God is able. The Lord has us speak to our mountains and over our valleys. The power of life and death is in the tongue. The word of our Heavenly father and Savior tells us to Speak, Profess, and Declare the Holy word in Faith. There’s an anointing that cultivates the atmosphere when we obey and trust in the Lord, leaning not to our own understanding. The word echoes in our ears and heart to bring forth the manifestation of God’s Holy word and promises of revelation. I thank the Lord for a tongue and voice to speak things into existence as my Abba Elohim. May peace and favor find you always in the Lord’s presence of love. Service Missionary, Sister Jones, Ga.
