Enjoyed your stories and references today. With the cold, pandemic and being alone….I had time to
enjoy your writings.
I am a convert from Missouri…. in a round-about way. My family were farmers and we were referred to
as “The children who worked in the fields.” (5 girls, 1 boy) At the age of 16, (after graduating from high school….the memorable comment from my history teacher ….he said, “I notice you do not TAKE SIDES with other students.”)
I traveled by car with another local student (gas was 29 cents a gallon) to Yellowstone. Snow was
removed from the roads in Yellowstone Park but it was way over our auto(May). I met some folks from SLC (I had sent
Yellowstone Lake employees out to rescue them) as they were stranded on Yellowstone Lake. As they were brought in the mother said
“If you ever come to Salt Lake we’ll help you with an apartment.” That fall my roommate and I came to SL. I got a $1 an hour job.
The folks older son came home from a mission in Canada. Their 3 boys, their parents and we had dinner every Sunday and after
running out of stories to tell we agreed to read the B of M. After one year, my roommate and I were baptized. Their oldest boy
went to BYU and later became a professor there. He is now retired. I went on to fulfill a stake Mission, joined the Airlines and
traveled many countries. I married and have three children and now am a grandmother. I see you all have beautiful children.
I must tell you about one of my granddaughters. I prayed her into the world (my daughter asked me pray for a child as she had
been married 3 years and had no children). When praying I asked if my daughter was to have a child. I received a flash of light.
I asked if she was to have a boy. Nothing happened. I asked if she was to have a girl. I got a flash of light. I asked if it was
my daughter’s fault that she had no children. No answer. I asked if it was her husband. I got a flash of light. I then asked if the
little girl would wear glasses. I got a light. When I told my daughter this, she commented that children don’t come with glasses
but she would take her husband for a check-up. He had a blockage. They fixed it “in house”. She has an only daughter (who wore glasses at 8 months). One of the unforgettable times I had, as I tended her each day…..about 3 years old… I was reading a book to her and she stopped me and said, “Grandma, you saved me.” I said, “What was I doing?” She then said, “Grandma, I was an angel in Heaven.” She and her parents now live in Colo. She is an “earth angel” now.
