I had to get my gallbladder removed in emergency surgery on Tuesday.

Is there anything worse than taking a woman with plans of launching her new study guide, writing posts, getting everything organized for the week, and sticking her in a hospital room without visitors and a dying cellphone?!

Guess what I’ve had to do these past few days as I’ve dealt with the unexpected hurdles and hospital stay?

Slow down.

Say no.

Let things go.

I was touched when I read about Alma dealing with his two jobs – one as the high priest of the church, and the other as the chief judge over the land.

He said that he felt very sorrowful with everything he had to deal with.

But the Spirit of the Lord did not fail him.

He knew he had to draw boundaries and set priorities with his time and mental resources.

So he gave up the judgment seat to someone who was very qualified, and he kept the role of high priest.

And guess what that meant for Alma?!

He was suddenly able to do so much MORE!

By saying no to one thing, he was able to travel the land and be the best high priest that the people needed.

What a simple but powerful lesson that I keep learning!

Sometimes, whether by choice or by emergency surgery to remove a terrible, useless organ, I get reminded that when I say no to some priorities, I’m able to actually do more.

Happy Studying!

  1. Hi Cali
Wishing you a speedy recovery my dearest sister. Heavenly Father is mindful of you and will always protect you and give you comfort.

I missed your teachings for few days not knowing what happened to you. But my prayer was ” Hope she is okay wherever she is ”

I’m happy the gallbladder is sorted!

We thank our Heavenly Father for everything. Stay blessed.

    Mary

    1. Haha I say that a little tongue-in-cheek, but my gallbladder was certainly not helping me in the way it should anymore!

    1. I’m sorry to hear of your illness. I also had my gallbladder out and it was not a fun experience. I hope you recover quickly!

I really appreciate your view on this scripture passage. I had never thought of it like this. There are so many things vying for my time and I think I have to do it all, but I don’t, and some things I do alright, other people do better. I need to delegate to them to free myself up to do more of what I’m good at. Thanks for your perspective on this! Trials often give us new perspectives.

I love your thought processes! Keep up the great work!

  2. I love discovering different perspectives of the scriptures. This one was so simple, yet profound! It will be one I’ll always remember. Thank you!
I also had my gallbladder removed and it took about 3 weeks to feel myself again. Slow and steady. The attacks before removal were more painful than childbirth without meds. Take care!

  3. So sorry to hear of your Gall Bladder surgery, I’ve been there and done that. You will be up and running before you know it. I really have loved your comments each week and find that I have been studying more deeply. Thanks for your blog.
